Tour Scotland Video Tusks Dundee Tayside



Tour Scotland travel video of the Tusks on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Dundee. These concrete tusks are located near Lochee Road in Dundee. The tusks are covered with " scrimshaw " scenes from the history of Dundee and reflect the history of the city as an old whaling port. The Dundee Whaling fleet participated in the Arctic Whale and seal hunting for longer than many other countries, Dundee had a presence in the Whaling industry from 1753 starting with the ship Dundee to just before the start of the Great War. The last custom built steam ship from Alexander Stephen’s yard in Dundee was the Terra Nova, which gained fame with the relief mission to the Discovery and was also used by Captain Robert Falcon Scott on his second, doomed expedition to the South Pole. The Discovery itself was not a working whaling ship although it was built on the lines of a whaler it was primarily for the Scott expedition to the South Pole.

Old photograph of houses and cottages in Creetown, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Sir Walter Scott set part of his book Guy Mannering in this neighborhood. Dr Thomas Brown, the metaphysician, born 1778, died 1820, was a native of the parish in which Creetown lies.

Tour Scotland Photographs Queen Elizabeth Royal Visit Scone Palace Perth Perthshire



Tour Scotland photographs of Queen Elizabeth at Scone Palace by Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The Queen was presented with the keys to the city and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh was also given the freedom of the city. After that event they had lunch at Scone Palsce, where Queen Elizabeth planted a tree.

Old photograph of a Scottish wedding in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Its ecclesiastical significance dates as far back as the fourth century, when St Regulus is claimed to have brought the relics of the saint there; its cultural importance dates from the early fifteenth century, when the world-famous university was founded there. More recently, since the seventeenth century, it has been well known as a centre for golf. .

Old Photograph Dornie Scotland

Old photograph of cottages and houses in Dornie, Scotland. This former Scottish fishing village is located near the meeting point of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. The main road to Isle of Skye, passes just outside the village. Before the construction of the bridge, the main road passed through the centre of the village and crossed Loch Long via a short ferry ride. Amongst bagpipers, the tune Dornie Ferry is well known strathspey. Eilean Donan is a famous castle on a nearby island.
