Erected in memory of George Sidey, Merchant, New Rattray, who died 31st of December 1860, aged 70 years, and of his children George and William who died in infancy and his daughter, Mary Sidey or Arklay, who died 21st of January 1865 and his wife Margaret McIntosh who died January 1888, and their grand-daughter Margaret Arklay who died 1st of January 1830, and their son Robert Sidey who died 5th of July 1890, also George Sidey.

The Sidey surname with variant spellings including Sutty, Syddie, Sidey, Sudy etc., is of Scottish locational origin either from Suddie in the parish of Knockbain in the Black Isle or from Suthie in Perthshire. On November 17th 1710 John Suttie and Catharine Dowglas were married in Abernethy, Perthshire, and on May 16th 1725 Isobel Suttie married Andrew Luke in Inchture, Perthshire.

Tour Scotland travel video of the James Howie, Farmer, gravestone on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the Parish Church graveyard in Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland. Erected by John Howie, farmer, Kirklands of Rattray in memory of his father James Howie who died 3rd of November 1839 aged 78 years, also his mother Jannet Bruce who died 4th of March aged 57 years, also his brother James who died 5th of July 1843 aged 12 years, and Thomas who died in infancy Seotember 1785.

The Howie surname derives from an estate known a " The lands of How " in the county of Ayrshire. In 1590 Robert Howie was recorded as being the Principal of Marischal College, Aberdeen, whilst in the year of 1625, Archibald Howey was elected a burgess of Glasgow. John Howie, born 1736, died 1793, wrote the long accepted standard work called The Scots Worthies, published in 1774.

In memory of Peter Soutar, Manufacturer in Rattray who died 6th of November, 1856, aged 71 years.The surname is first recorded in Scotland in the early 13th Century: Roger Sutor held land in Dumfries in 1214, and Thomas Soutar obtained from the abbot of Cupar in Fife the lease of a portion of the land of Nuirton in 1457.

Tour Scotland travel video of the James Anderson Dickson gravestone on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to and trip to Arbroath, Angus. Colonel James Anderson Dickson of Woodville V.D. J.P. C.C. born 1818, died 1901. The surname Dickson was first found in Kirkcudbrightshire, Gaelic: Siorrachd Chille Chuithbheirt, part of the present day Council Area of Dumfries and Galloway, former county in Southwestern Scotland, where they held a family seat from early times. They were descended from the ancient Pictish Clan Keith, and the first Dickson was son of Richard Keith, son of the great Marischal of Scotland, who died in 1249, and Margaret daughter of the third Lord Douglas. Hence the Clan has always claimed to be followers of the Douglas Clan. Dickson has been spelled Dixon, Dickson, Dixoun, Dikson, Dyxson, Dyckson, Dicksoun, Dicson and many more.

Old Photograph Pier Largs Scotland

Old photograph of people on the pier in Largs in Ayrshire, Scotland. From its beginnings as a small village around its kirk, Largs evolved into a busy and popular seaside resort in the nineteenth century. Large hotels appeared and the pier was constructed in 1834. It was not until 1895, however, that the railway made the connection to Largs, sealing the town's popularity. The town is served by the railway line from Glasgow to North Ayrshire. Largs is the birthplace of the actors Daniela Nardini and John Sessions, the footballer Lou Macari and the golfer Sam Torrance. Though not born in Largs, musician and songwriter Graham Lyle of Gallagher and Lyle was brought up there and still returns to visit his holiday home.
