Tour Scotland travel video of the James Howie, Farmer, gravestone on ancestry visit to the Parish Church graveyard in Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland. Erected by John Howie, farmer, Kirklands of Rattray in memory of his father James Howie who died 3rd of November 1839 aged 78 years, also his mother Jannet Bruce who died 4th of March aged 57 years, also his brother James who died 5th of July 1843 aged 12 years, and Thomas who died in infancy Seotember 1785.

The Howie surname derives from an estate known a " The lands of How " in the county of Ayrshire. In 1590 Robert Howie was recorded as being the Principal of Marischal College, Aberdeen, whilst in the year of 1625, Archibald Howey was elected a burgess of Glasgow. John Howie, born 1736, died 1793, wrote the long accepted standard work called The Scots Worthies, published in 1774.
