Old Photograph Bridge Street Hawick Scotland

Old photograph of vintage cars and buildings on Bridge Street, Hawick, Scotland. One notable historical event is that a house at 9-11 Bridge Street, now a shoe shop, is said to be the first in Scotland to be lit by gas in February 1818, installed by local coppersmith William Muir. The town as a whole developed significantly in the late 18th and 19th centuries as an important centre for textiles and knitwear. Tour Scotland Green Grow the Rashes Video

Tour Scotland Green Grow the Rashes video. Michael Marra sings Robert Burns. Sad to hear today that Michael died on Tuesday night, October 23rd, 2012, following a long battle with illness. I had heard Michael sing many times. He was a wonderful Scottish singer and songwriter who will be much missed. May he R.I.P.

There's nought but care on ev'ry han',
In ev'ry hour that passes, O:
What signifies the life o' man,
An' 'twere na for the lasses, O.

Chorus. Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.

The war'ly race may riches chase,
An' riches still may fly them, O;
An' tho' at last they catch them fast,
Their hearts can ne'er enjoy them, O.

Chorus. Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.

But gie me a cannie hour at e'en,
My arms about my dearie, O;
An' war'ly cares, an' war'ly men,
May a' gae tapsalteerie, O!

Chorus. Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.

For you sae douce, ye sneer at this;
Ye're nought but senseless asses, O:
The wisest man the warl' e'er saw,
He dearly lov'd the lasses, O.

Chorus. Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.

Auld Nature swears, the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes, O:
Her prentice han' she try'd on man,
An' then she made the lasses, O.

Chorus. Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.
