Old photograph of vintage cars and buildings on Bridge Street, Hawick, Scotland. One notable historical event is that a house at 9-11 Bridge Street, now a shoe shop, is said to be the first in Scotland to be lit by gas in February 1818, installed by local coppersmith William Muir. The town as a whole developed significantly in the late 18th and 19th centuries as an important centre for textiles and knitwear.
