Tour Scotland short 4K Spring travel video, with Scottish music, of the Eastern tower on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Huntingtower Castle, Perth, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. The Eastern Tower is the oldest standing structure of Huntingtower Castle, originally constructed around 1460 by the powerful Ruthven family. The Eastern Tower was initially built as a free standing, defensive gatehouse. Around 1500, the Ruthvens converted the gatehouse into a full residential tower house spanning three storeys and a garret. Mary Queen of Scots came to honeymoon here in 1565 with her new husband, Lord Darnley. The castle is also said to be haunted by a green lady. In 1582 the tower layout played a backdrop to political treason when the Ruthvens kidnapped the 15 year old King James VI, Mary's son, and held him hostage for 10 months. After another failed plot to assassinate King James VI in 1600, the Ruthven family was executed and stripped of their property. The crown literally outlawed the name " Ruthven, " and renamed the property Huntingtower Castle. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
