Old photograph of the pier at Campbeltown, Scotland.Campbeltown Harbour, including its piers and quays, has a rich history rooted in its role as a vital port for the Kintyre peninsula, especially before the advent of widespread road and rail transport. It was a crucial link for sea routes to Glasgow, Ireland, and Liverpool, and served as a shelter port before the Crinan Canal.

Old photograph of Brachelston Square, Greenock, Scotland, In the 17th century Greenock was a small fishing village consisting of one row of thatched cottages. Port facilities were greatly improved during the 18th and 19th centuries, and shipbuilding, marine engineering, sugar refining, and textile manufacture developed and expanded. Large numbers of warships and passenger liners were built in Greenock’s extensive shipyards, which stretched to neighbouring Port Glasgow
