Old photograph of Leven, Fife, Scotland. Leven is located on the coast of the Firth of Forth at the mouth of the River Leven, eight miles north-east of Kirkcaldy and six miles east of Glenrothes. I was born in Randolph Street, in nearby village of Buckhaven.

Old Photographs Durie Street Leven Scotland

Old photograph of shops, houses and people on Durie Street in Leven, Fife, Scotland. In 1854 the Leven Railway opened, linking the town with Thornton Junction on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen main line. This helped it to become a tourist resort popular with visitors from the west of Scotland, and particularly Glasgow. Later in the 19th century the Leven Railway became part of a loop line of the North British Railway linking Thornton Junction and Leuchars Junction via St Andrews. The railway between Leven and St. Andrews closed in 1965. The railway between Leven and Thornton Junction closed to freight in 1966 and passengers in 1969.

Tour Scotland photograph of Leven Beach and Largo Bay, Fife, Scotland. Leven is a seaside town in Fife, set in the east Central Lowlands of Scotland. It lies on the coast of the Firth of Forth at the mouth of the River Leven, 8 miles north east of the town of Kirkcaldy and 6 miles east of Glenrothes.

Tour Scotland Photographs Leven Parish Church

Tour Scotland photograph of Leven Parish Church, Fife, Scotland. The replacement for the ancient kirk in Scoonie Cemetery stands close to the town centre in Durie Street. Although greatly altered in 1822 and 1901 to 1904, it retains its steeple of 1775, the octagonal spire of which resembles that of St Cuthbert's Parish Church in Edinburgh.

Tour Scotland Photograph Leven Links

Tour Scotland photograph of Leven Links, Leven, Fife, Scotland. Leven Links, as its name suggests, is a 'links' golf course, beautifully situated by the sands of Largo Bay. It is a long established course of open championship qualifying standard and is the home base of two golf clubs; the Leven Golfing Society and the Leven Thistle Golf Club.

Tour Scotland Photographs Old Scoonie Parish Church

Tour Scotland photograph of the old Scoonie Parish Church in the cemetery in Leven, Fife, Scotland. The oldest building in Leven is the remaining fragment of the Old Scoonie Parish Church, dating possibly from the 12th century, and now used as a burial enclosure within the oldest part of Scoonie Cemetery. It became redundant and fell into a ruinous state after the current Parish Church of Leven was built in 1775. The ruins were converted into a burial enclosure for the Christie family who lived in Durie House.
