Tour Scotland Video Drive From Ben Lawers To Kenmore Highland Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of a drive down from Ben Lawers then onto the A827 road on ancestry visit to Kenmore, in Highland Perthshire, Scotland. There are just two villages passed as we head east above Loch Tay, the first is the tiny settlement of Lawers below Ben Lawers, the mighty Munro that towers over Loch Tay; the other is Fearnan. Beyond Fearnan, the road once more dives into trees and, while the loch shore is never far away, the dense forestry of The Tay Forest Park blocks most of the views. As the trees clear, the road curves round to the right and drops into Kenmore. This is the eastern end of Loch Tay, where the River Tay starts, and is almost immediately crossed by Kenmore Bridge. Beyond the bridge, the road weaves through the pretty street of Kenmore.

Tour Scotland Video Drive From Glasgow To Doune Castle

Tour Scotland video of a road trip drive from Glasgow on the M9 motorway and the B824 road to the castle in Doune, Scotland. In 1361, Robert Stewart, born 1340, died 1420, son of King Robert II who reigned from 1371 to 1390, and brother of King Robert III, who reigned from 1390 to 1406, was created Earl of Menteith, and was granted the lands on which Doune Castle now stands. Building may have started any time after this, and the castle was at least partially complete in 1381, when a charter was sealed here. Robert was appointed Regent in 1388 for his elderly father, and continued to hold effective power during the reign of his infirm brother. He was created Duke of Albany in 1398. In 1406, Robert III's successor, James I, was captured by the English, and Albany became Regent once more. After this time, the number of charters issued at Doune suggest that the castle became a favoured residence. Architecturally it is a mixture of fortress and manor house. Bonnie Prince Charlie passed through Doune in 1745. Doune is a popular filming location and has featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander movies.

This situation persisted until, in 1871, it was considered unsafe to continue worship at the abbey church and a new parish church was built.
