Gin ye'll mairry me, lassie, at the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it
Ye will wear when ye are wed a kirtle and a Hieland plaid
And sleep upon a heather bed sae couthy and sae canty

Ye will gang sae braw, lassie, tae the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Little brogues an' a', lassie, vow, but ye'll be canty
Your wee bit tocher is but sma', but hodden grey will wear for a'
And I'll save my siller tae mak ye braw an' ye will ne'er repent it

Gin ye'll mairry me, lassie, at the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it
We'll hae bonnie bairns an' a', some lassies fair an' laddies braw
Just like their mither ane an' a', an' yer faither he's consented

Gin ye'll mairry me, lassie, at the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it
We'll hunt the otter an' the brock, the hart, the hare, the heather cock
An' I'll pu' ye limpets frae the rock tae mak yer dishes dainty

Gin ye'll mairry me, lassie, at the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it

But I ken the lassie that wears the auld plaidie,
The lassie that keepit my crookit bawbee."

Tour Scotland Video I'm On My Way Auchtermuchty Fife

Tour Scotland video of the Music Makers singing I’m On My Way in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. The Music Makers are a wonderful, friendly, group of local musicians from North Fife. The song they are singing here was written by The Proclaimers, a Scottish band composed of identical twin brothers, Charlie and Craig Reid, born 5th March, 1962, in Leith, Scotland. They are probably best known for the songs " Letter from America ", " I'm On My Way " and " I'm Gonna Be 500 Miles ". Craig Reid and Charlie Reid grew up in Edinburgh, Cornwall and Auchtermuchty.

I'm on my way from misery to happiness today
I'm on my way from misery to happiness today
I'm on my way to what I want from this world
And years from now you'll make it to the next world
And everything that you receive up yonder
Is what you gave to me the day I wandered

I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took the road that brought me to your home town
I took the bus to streets that I could walk down
I walked the streets to find the one I'd looked for
I climbed the stair that led me to your front door

And now that I don't want for anthing
I'd have Al Jolson sing " I'm sitting on top of the world "

I'll do my best, I'll do my best to do the best I can
I'll do my best, I'll do my best to do the best I can
To keep my feet from jumping from the ground dear
To keep my heart from jumping through my mouth dear
To keep the past, the past and not the present
To try and learn when you teach me a lesson

And now that I don't want for anything
I'd have Al Jolson sing " I'm sitting on top of the world ".

Old Photograph Auchtermuchty Fife Scotland

Old photograph of the hotel, horse and carriage, cottages, houses, people and Town hall in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. The town was built near the site of a Roman camp. In the 15th century the area was thickly covered with forest where Mary Queen of Scots and other members of the Royal Family hunted wild boar. In 1517 the town was created a Royal Burgh and in 1595 King James VI gave it a new Charter and included 3,000 acres of land. Between 1800 and 1900 the population was doubled due to the great increase in handloom weaving.

Tour Scotland Photograph Video Auchtermuchty Parish Church

Tour Scotland photograph of Auchtermuchty Parish Church, Fife, Scotland. The first recorded mention of any church on the site of the present Parish Church is on March 31st 1245 when the building, probably constructed of wattle and daub, was consecrated by the then Bishop of St Andrews, Archbishop de Burnham. There may well have been a church on the chosen site before this and it might have been called St Serf's or St Severus' in remembrance of one of the early saints of this area. The Reformation that impacted on the rest of Scotland scarcely touched Auchtermuchty. In 1615 the Reverend James Barker, the 2nd Reform Minister, was accused by the Synod of Gambling and was Rebuked. The Rev Mr Barker was married to a relation of the local Laird whose family financed the building of the Reformation Church, which could explain the leniency of the sentence. Other ministers in other areas might have been dismissed or fined.
