Old Photograph West Anstruther Church Fife Scotland
Old photograph of West Anstruther, Fife, Scotland. Anstruther Wester Parish Church is on the western edge of the village of Anstruther in a graveyard cemetery which is bounded by a stream and a beach. In 1243, a church on this site was dedicated to St. Nicholas. The present structure consists of a sixteenth century tower and steeple and a mid nineteenth century main cell, which probably incorporates fabric from the medieval church. The graveyard surrounds the church to the north, south and east. It contains a number of 17th century memorials. I was raised in this old Scottish fishing village.

Tour Scotland Photographs Video Harbour Anstruther East Neuk Of Fife January 7th
Tour Scotland photograph shot this afternoon of the harbour at Anstruther, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. The wooden boat is the Reaper, a Fifie sailing herring drifter, the most popular design of fishing boat on the East Coast of Scotland for the greater part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. This is the town where I was raised in Scotland. I love this place.

Lifeboat Heroes. Outstanding RNLI Rescues From Three Centuries. The RNLI is at the forefront of saving lives around Britain's coasts. Putting to sea in all weathers, its crews are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Edward Wake-Walker describes 16 dramatic rescues spanning 200 years in the RNLI's distinguished history. The earliest story is that of Sir William Hillary, founder of the RNLI, who rescued all 17 crew and passengers from the Fortroendet aground in 1827. A more recent account concerns helicopter winch man, Bill Deacon, who died after saving the last ten men from the freighter Green Lily in a hurricane in 1997, and coxswain Hewitt Clark who brought his lifeboat alongside the ship and saved five of her crew. Recollections of East Fife Fisher folk. During the early part of the 20th century, fishing still formed one of the main industries in the famous corner of Fife. Belle Patrick spent her first 30 years in Anstruther, and in the mid 1960s wrote this memoir to put on record the fishing way of life, believing it to be so independent. Recollections of East Fife Fisher-folk.
Tour Scotland Ansruther Tom Weir Video
Tour Scotland Ansruther Tom Weir Video. Tom Weir visited Anstruther, where I was raised in Scotland, in 1978. Locally it is known as Anster, as you will hear on the video. I am very proud to have been raised in this traditional Scottish fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife, sadly, the fishing industry is long gone. This video was made by Thomas Weir MBE, better known as Tom (December 29, 1914 - July 6, 2006) who was a Scottish climber, author and broadcaster. He was best known for his long-running television series Weir's Way.

Anstruther is one of the most picturesque villages on the north coast of the Forth, packed with architectural delights and filled with historical resonance. Trade with the Low Countries began as early as the late fourteenth century; during the eighteenth century it was home to a chapter of the dubious gentleman's club The Beggar's Benison and during the nineteenth and early part of the twentieth it enjoyed its heyday as one of the main centres of the Scottish herring industry. Today it houses the world-renowned Scottish Fisheries Museum. Anstruther was in fact, until recently, two distinct communities. The small settlements of Anstruther Easter and Wester grew up on either side of a burn. In spite of their nearness they grew in different ways. Both were granted charters in the 1580s and became self-governing communities, which they remained for the next 340 years. This book traces the history of both burghs from earliest times to the present day. Through meticulous research which includes reference to the records and minutes of the two town councils, to local newspapers and even the deeds of old houses, it provides a fascinating insight into the histories of the two burghs and port. Anstruther: A History.
