Tour Scotland travel video of a white tailed sea eagle catching a fish on visit to the West coast of the Scottish Highlands. The white tailed eagle, also known as the sea eagle, is the largest bird of prey in the UK and the fourth largest eagle in the world. To catch fish, sea eagles generally watch the water surface from a perch or while soaring in the air. Then they swoop down close to the water and drop their feet right in the water to catch the fish. Eagles often steal food from other eagles or from other birds of prey like ospreys.
It has brown body plumage with a conspicuously pale head and neck which can be almost white in older birds, and the tail feathers of adults are white. In flight it has massive long, broad wings with fingered' ends. Its head protrudes and it has a short, wedge shaped tail. They are versatile and opportunistic hunters and carrion feeders, sometimes pirating food from other birds and even otters. They eat largely fish, but also take various birds, rabbits and hares.
