Spring Drive To Burial Ground Parish Church Guthrie Angus Scotland



Tour Scotland travel video of a cloudy Spring road drive, with Scottish bagpipes and drums to the burial ground at the Parish Church in Guthrie on ancestry visit to Angus. The remains of the former parish church, which was a long, narrow building with small lancet windows. The body of the church was pulled down to make way for the present church, built in 1826, leaving only the Guthrie Aisle, which has been attached to the church, and is now the Guthrie family burial vault. During the latter part of the eighteenth century William Guthrie emigrated from Scotland to America. This aisle forming part of the old church of Guthrie founded AD 1479 was restored by Jane Guthrie in memory of her father and mother John Guthrie of Guthrie and Ann Douglas his wife Also of her sisters Margaret and Ann and her brother William all of whose bodies rest here in peace AD 1881. There are some 17th and 18th century gravestones in the burial ground, and a heraldic panel above the entrance gateway bears the date 1657. The surname Guthrie was first found in Angus, Gaelic: Aonghas, adjacent to Perthshire, and now part of the Tayside region of northeastern Scotland, and present day Council Area of Angus, formerly known as Forfar or Forfarshire, and in Forfar in the Barony of Guthrie. The first recorded member of the Guthrie family was a Guthrie who was sent to France after William Wallace in 1299. Adam de Guthrie witnessed documents relating to a burgess of Dundee in 1348, and Jon of Guthere was a juror on the marches of Woodwrae in 1388.

Robert Guthrie settled in New England in 1651. Thomas Guthrie with his wife and seven children settled in Savannah Georgia in 1774. William Guthrie landed in New York in 1793. Richard Guthrie, aged 34, arrived in New York, NY in 1804. George Guthrie landed in America in 1811. James Guthrie, aged 46, arrived in New York in 1812. Thomas D Guthrie arrived in San Francisco, California in 1850. Edwin Guthrie arrived in Texas in 1850. Agnes Guthrie, aged 14, landed in America, in 1911. Agnes Guthrie, aged 29, immigrated to the United States from Paisley, Scotland, in 1914. Abram Guthrie, aged 3, immigrated to the United States, in 1920. Agnes Guthrie, aged 18, settled in America from Glasgow, in 1921. Agnes Guthrie, aged 66, landed in America from Johnston, Scotland, in 1921.

Thomas Guthrie, landed in Wellington, New Zealand in 1841. Thomas Guthrie, aged 26, a farmer, arrived in Wellington, New Zealand aboard the ship " Adelaide " in 1858. Ann Guthrie, aged 24, arrived in Wellington, New Zealand aboard the ship " Adelaide " in 1858. Annie Guthrie, aged under 1, arrived in Wellington, New Zealand aboard the ship "Adelaide" in 1858. Helen Guthrie, arrived in Wellington, New Zealand aboard the ship " Affiance " in 1863.

George Guthrie, arrived in Kangaroo Bay, Australia, aboard the ship " Tam O'Shanter " in 1836. John Guthrie, arrived in Adelaide, Australia aboard the ship " Indus " in 1839. Andrew Guthrie, aged 29, a stonemason, arrived in South Australia in 1850 aboard the ship " Lysander. " Thomas Guthrie, aged 30, a carpenter, arrived in South Australia in 1852 aboard the ship "Amazon. "

The current chief of Clan Guthrie is Alexander Guthrie of Guthrie 21st of that Ilk who lives between Italy and England. Following the sale of Guthrie Castle out of the family, the clan seat is know generally seen as being Torosay Castle on the Isle of Mull.
