Tour Scotland Photograph Cairn and Rainbow Isle of Arran

Tour Scotland photograph of a Cairn and a Rainbow on the Island of Arran, Scotland. Arran or the Isle of Arran, Scottish Gaelic: Eilean Arainn, at 432 square kilometres, is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde and the seventh largest Scottish island. Historically part of Buteshire, it is in the unitary council area of North Ayrshire. Though culturally and physically similar to the Hebrides, it is separated from them by the Kintyre peninsula. It is divided into highland and lowland areas by the Highland Boundary Fault and has been described as a " geologist's paradise. " Arran has been continuously inhabited since the early Neolithic period, and numerous prehistoric remains have been found. From the 6th century onwards, Goidelic speaking peoples from Ireland colonised it and it became a centre of religious activity. During the troubled Viking Age, Arran became the property of the Norwegian crown, until formally absorbed by the kingdom of Scotland in the 13th century. The 19th century " clearances " led to significant depopulation and the end of the Gaelic language and way of life.

Old Photograph Argyle Street and Union Street Glasgow Scotland

Old photograph of Trams at the intersection of Argyle Street with the junction of Jamaica Street and Union Street in Glasgow, Scotland. Originally known as Westergait, Argyle Street led west from Trongate to the city's West Port, the western gate out of the city's walls. It was renamed in honour of the Duke of Argyll, some time after the removal of the West Port in 1751, as a result of the expansion of the city westward. Union Street was called Union Place till Gordon Street was opened in 1802. Sir Andrew Orr, who was Provost in 1854 had a considerable monetary interest in this street.

Tour Scotland Photograph Cairn Black Mount Mountains

Tour Scotland photograph of a cairn in the Black Mount group of mountains in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Black Mount, also Blackmount is a mountain range situated between Glen Orchy and Glen Coe. Its four Munros include Stob Ghabhar, Stob a' Choire Odhair, Creise and Meall a' Bhuiridh. The hills of Ben Inverveigh and Meall Tairbh are located between Black Mount and the Bridge of Orchy. The Black Mount Deer Forest includes moorland, the mountain, as well as several rivers, burns, lochs, and tarns.
