Tour Scotland Video Elcho Doocot Perthshire


Tour Scotland travel video of the Doocot near Elcho Castle on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and small group trip to Perthshire, Scotland. This picturesque 16th century Doocot is very close to Elcho Castle. This type of structure was intended to house pigeons or doves in days gone by in Scotland. Pigeons and doves were an important food source historically, and were kept for their eggs, flesh, and dung. This doocot contains more than 400 pigeon holes.

Tour Scotland Photograph Video Elcho Castle Perthshire

Tour Scotland photograph of Elcho Castle just South of Perth, Scotland. This Scottish castle, located on the South Bank of the River Tay, consists of a Z-plan tower house, with fragments of a surrounding wall with corner towers. The Castle was built on the site of an older structure about 1560, and is one of the best surviving examples of its date in Scotland. A large portion of the Castle is accessible, although floors in some rooms have fallen, and much of the building can be walked through. Elcho Castle was built in the latter half of the 16th century for the Wemyss family.

Old photograph of the Lecht Road in Scotland. The A939 Lecht Road connects the A96 at Nairn on the Moray Coast with the A95 at Grantown on Spey, then it continues to the A93 at Ballater by way of the Grampian Mountains, passing Tomintoul and the Lecht Ski Centre.

Old photograph of Colintraive, Scotland. The name Colintraive derives from Gaelic and means " swimming strait " or " swimming narrows ". In the past, cattle were swum over from the Isle of Bute to Colintraive on their way to the markets of lowland Scotland.

Old Photograph Jamaica Street Bridge Glasgow Scotland

Old photograph of Jamaica Street Bridge, Glasgow, Scotland. The Broomielaw Bridge, designed by Thomas Telford, was opened in 1836 as a replacement for an earlier bridge. Also known as Glasgow Bridge or Telford's Bridge, it consisted of seven arches. The bridge carried traffic across the River Clyde from Jamaica Street to Bridge Street. In 1895 work began on replacing it with a wider bridge which opened in 1899. It is now known as the Jamaica Street or Glasgow Bridge.

Tour Scotland photograph of the David Douglas Memorial, Scone, Perthshire, Scotland. The son of a stonemason, he was born in the village of Scone north east of Perth, Scotland. He worked as a gardener, became a famous botanist, and explored the Scottish Highlands, North America, and Hawaii, where he died.
