St Andrews. The Home of Golf. This is a lavish, full-colour exploration of the Scottish town whose name is synonymous with golf. St Andrews - once Scotland's greatest city, the cradle of its religion and the birthplace of its first university; today the ancient burg is known the world over as the spiritual home of golf, a place that evokes images of windswept seaside links and legendary golfing champions. "St Andrews: The Home of Golf" celebrates this unique haven of the game through striking pictures by renowned golf photographer Kevin Murray, while the authors' blend of history, personal observations and anecdotes distills centuries of golfing tradition into lively, atmospheric prose. Combined, they capture the immortal nature of all that is best about golf embodied in one of its most important and beautiful locations. As the Open Championship returns to St Andrews in 2010, "St Andrews: The Home of Golf" marks the 150th anniversary of golf's oldest and most prestigious tournament with a lavish visual journey along the medieval city's bustling cobbled streets, through the doors of many prestigious golf clubs residing within its venerable greystone walls, and around each one of St Andrews' several great courses - from the famous Old Course to the stunning new Castle Course. For those who know and love St Andrews, this book will evoke fond memories. For those still to make the pilgrimage and walk in the footsteps of golf's greatest players, "St Andrews: The Home of Golf" is a must-read that no lover of the game should be without. Tour Scotland Photograph Nathaniel Law Gravestone

Tour Scotland photograph of the Nathaniel Law gravestone in the old Parish Churchyard at Eassie, near Glamis Castle, Angus, Scotland. Nathaniel Law, for 10 years Minister of Eassie and Neavie, born 25th May, 1852, died 14th February 1888. Not much information given on this gravestone, but for me an interesting cross to photograph.

The Law surname is widespread in Scotland and England and the surname is locational as well as topographic in origin. Early examples of recordings include William de Lawe of the county of Essex in 1229; William Law of Cambridgeshire in 1279 and Hugh del Lawe of Yorkshire in 1309. Robert de Lawe of Scotland, was granted a safe conduct to pass through England on his return from Spain in 1428, and in 1488 James of Law was noted in the records of the burgh of Prestwick.

King Malcolm II is reputed to have been murdered in the castle, with blood stains on the floor of "King Malcolm's Room" to prove the claim.

Tour Scotland Video Glamis Pictish Stone

Tour Scotland video of the Glamis Pictish Stone near Glamis Castle, Angus, Scotland. The front of the Glamis Manse Stone with its intricately carved cross. The cross face bears a celtic cross carved in relief with ogee armpits. It has an incised ring and the shaft and roundel are decorated with knotwork interlace designs, with the arms and portion above the roundel holding zoomorphic interlaces. The cross is surrounded by incised symbols and figural representations. In the lower left-hand quadrant is depiction of two bearded, long-haired men apparently fighting with axes. Above them is what appears to be a cauldron with human legs dangling out of it. The lower right-hand quadrant holds what appears to be either a deer or a hound's head, similar to symbols found on the Monifieth 2 stone, above a triple disc symbol. The top right quadrant holds a centaur holding a pair of axes. The top left quadrant holds what has been interpreted as a lion.

Tour Scotland Video Scone Palace Walk

Tour Scotland video of a walk on Moot Hill, Scone Palace, by Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Very windy today in Scotland. Scone Palace opened for the tourist season this morning, so it seemed like a good place to tour. There are a number of Peacocks roaming the grounds of Scone Palace, including the White Peacock you see at the start of this video. Scone Moot Hill, the mons placiti or Scone mote hill is the inauguration site of the Scottish Kings. It is also called Boot Hill, possibly from an ancient tradition whereby emissaries swore fealty to their king by wearing the earth of their own lands in their foot-bindings or boots. You can also see the replica of the Stone of Destiny on this video, which sits in front of Scone Palace Mortuary Chapel or Mausoleum on the site of the former Parish Church of Scone.
