Baker Gravestone Kirkton of Monikie Angus Scotland



Tour Scotland travel video of the David Ritchie gravestone in the graveyard on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to Kirkton of Monikie in Angus. Sacred to the memory of David Ritchie, sometimes Baker in Dundee, afterwards Flour Miller in Monifieth, who died on 3rd January, 1849, aged 57 years. Recorded as MacRitchie, McRitchie, Riche, Richie, and Ritchie, this interesting surname is of early medieval English and Scottish origin. It is a diminutive of Richard, the popular Germanic personal name composed of the elements " ric ", meaning power, and " hard ", brave or strong. Kirkton of Monikie is located a mile east northeast of the village of Monikie and 4 miles north west of Carnoustie.

Balgay Park Footbridge Western Necropolis Dundee Scotland



Tour Scotland travel video of the elegant cast iron arch footbridge from Western Necropolis to Balgay Park on visit to Dundee, Scotland. This Scottish bridge was designed by George Hird of the Burgh Engineer's Department and the tender of Messrs. Macdonald of £500 for its erection was accepted in April 1872.

Tour Scotland travel video of a walk in Balgay Cemetery Western Necropolis on visit to Dundee, Scotland. In 1870 Balgay Hill was acquired and a portion of it laid out as a cemetery. William McKelvie was responsible for the layout of the cemetery, which is inspired by Pere La Chaise' garden cemetery in Paris, France.
