Sacred to the memory of David Ritchie, sometimes Baker in Dundee, afterwards Flour Miller in Monifieth, who died on 3rd January, 1849, aged 57 years. Recorded as MacRitchie, McRitchie, Riche, Richie, and Ritchie, this interesting surname is of early medieval English and Scottish origin. It is a diminutive of Richard, the popular Germanic personal name composed of the elements " ric ", meaning power, and " hard ", brave or strong. Kirkton of Monikie is located a mile east northeast of the village of Monikie and 4 miles north west of Carnoustie.
