Domestic servants worked, and often lived, within there employer's household, performing a variety of household services for an individual or a family, from providing care for children and elderly dependents to housekeeping, including cooking, cleaning and household maintenance and gardening. The life of a Victorian servant could be very hard, depending on the household in which they worked and the jobs they had to do.

Old photograph of Apprentice Engineers in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Leith has played a long and prominent role in Scottish history. As the major port serving Edinburgh, it has been the stage on which many significant events in Scottish history have taken place. Mary of Guise ruled Scotland from Leith in 1560 as Regent while her daughter, Mary, Queen of Scots remained in France. Mary of Guise moved the Scottish Court to Leith.

Old Photograph Hotel Bridge Of Cally Perthshire Scotland

Old photograph of the hotel in Bridge Of Cally, Perthshire, Scotland. The hotel was originally a temperance establishment with alcohol being served for the first time in the 1960s. Until that time it served as the local petrol station and the proprietor operated a daily bus service along the A93 from Blacklunans to Blairgowrie.

Old Photograph River Don Kemnay Scotland

Old photograph of the River Don by Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The River Don rises in the Grampians and flows eastwards, through Aberdeenshire, to the North Sea at Aberdeen. The Don passes through Alford, Kemnay, Inverurie, Kintore, and Dyce. Its main tributary, the River Ury, joins at Inverurie. The river was recorded by the 2nd century AD cosmographer Ptolemy of Alexandria as Δηουανα Devona, meaning goddess, an indication the river was once a sacred one. Near Kintore, not distant from the Don, is the Deers Den Roman Camp. In 1750 the Don's lower reaches were channelled towards the sea, moving its confluence with the sea northwards. Strathdon attracts visitors for salmon and trout fishing as well as its castles and scenery.

Old Photograph Golf Course Clubhouse Cullen Scotland

Old photograph of the golf course clubhouse in Cullen, Moray, Scotland. The club was founded in 1870 and the first nine holes were laid out by old Tom Morris from St Andrews, Fife. It was upgraded to 18 holes by by local architect Charlie Neaves. The course is centrally situated between Aberdeen and Inverness on the Moray Firth Coast.
