Old Photograph School Slamannan Scotland
Old photograph of the school in Slamannan located six miles East of Cumbernauld, Scotland. Former Cabinet Minister Viscount Horne was born in Slamannan in 1871, the son of the village's Church of Scotland minister. After study at the University of Glasgow, he became a successful QC and was elected to represent Glasgow Hillhead in Parliament, and served as Minister of Labour, President of the Board of Trade and Chancellor of the Exchequer under Lloyd George after the First World War. He was ennobled in 1937 as Viscount Horne of Slammanan. Lance Corporal Samuel Frickleton, was born in Slamannan, in 1891, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Frickleton. The family emigrated to New Zealand to take advantage of the plentiful jobs on offer in the coal mining industry, and the following year saw the outbreak of the First World War. Corporal Frickleton was awarded the military's highest honour for his actions in the Battle of Messines. His bravery was so outstanding that his commanding officer claimed he could have won the Victoria Cross " twice over ".

Old Photograph Bentham Street Ardler Perthshire Scotland
Old photograph of cottages and children on Bentham Street in Ardler, Perthshire, Scotland. Bentham Street was named in honor of the influential English philosopher and social reformer Jeremy Bentham. This follows the vision of the village's founder, George Kinloch, who named Ardler's streets after political and philosophical heroes that inspired his radical politics. This Scottish village is located three miles to the east of Coupar Angus, and approximately equidistant between the latter and Meigle.

Old Photograph Delivery Cart Ettrickbridge Scotland
Old photograph of delivery cart in Ettrickbridge located seven miles from Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Scotland. There have been settlements in the area for over a century, but in recent years the population has increased steadily. The village was known as Kirkhope until the late 1700s.
