Old Photograph Passenger Bus To Coulport Scotland

Old photograph of a passenger bus going to Coulport in Garelochhead, Scotland. Originally in Dunbartonshire Garelochhead developed from the 1820s with the advent of steamer cruising during the Glasgow Fair holiday. Tourism was boosted with the opening of the West Highland Railway line to Fort William in 1894. Coulport is a village on the east side of Loch Long 5 miles north west of Cove on the Rosneath peninsula. It marks the end of the B833 shore road. Since the 1960s Coulport has been most associated with the Trident missile storage and the nearby Royal Naval Armaments Depot, RNAD Coulport, situated there as part of HMNB Clyde.

Old photograph of a Royal Visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland. George Frederick Ernest Albert, born 3 June 1865, died 20 January 1936, was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936. Mary was the wife and Queen consort of King George V, she was born on May 26, 1867 at Kensington Palace, London, England. She married George V, on July 6, 1893.

Old Photograph Saint Columba Hotel Island Of Iona Scotland

Old photograph of the Saint Columba Hotel on the Island of Iona, Scotland. The original building was the Free Church Manse constructed in 1846 and occupied by the Reverend Donald McVean and his family. The architect was Rowan Anderson who supervised the first restoration of the Abbey in 1874. The Duke of Argyll did not renew the lease and on the 9th May 1868 the following advertisement appeared in the Oban Times: " Island of Iona. Notice of house to let. Two public and six bedrooms. Well adapted for the accommodation of travellers. Well worthy the attention of persons accustomed to the management of inns or lodging houses. There is a walled garden well stocked with fruit trees, and some parks with grazing, if required, can be added. "

Old Photographs Railway Station Dumfries Scotland

Old photograph of the railway station in Dumfries, Scotland. Opened by the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway in 1848, the line serving it was extended northwards to Kilmarnock and Glasgow two years later and became part of the Glasgow and South Western Railway at the same time. It subsequently became the junction for branches to Castle Douglas and Stranraer, which opened between 1859 and 1861, and Lockerbie which opened in 1863. All of these later lines have now closed leaving only the original G&SWR main line open to serve the town.
