Old photograph of people outside thatched cottages in Freuchie, Fife, Scotland. Freuchie was once used by the Royal family as a place of banishment from the Court when it was in nearby Falkland Palace. The Scots saying " awa tae Freuchie an eat mice " was thought to come from this time.

Old Photograph Bannockburn Memorial Ceres Fife Scotland
Old photograph of the Bannockburn Memorial in Ceres, Fife, Scotland. The Men of Ceres who fought at Bannockburn on June 23/24 June 1314 , fought under the Earl Marshall of Scotland from Struthers Castle. Before the battle the Men of Ceres were trained in the use of the bow upon the village green known as Bow Butts and Robert the Bruce authorised the people of the village to hold the Games on the village green. The Ceres Highland Games, the oldest in Scotland , were to celebrate the return of the Men of Ceres from the battle. During 1914, the Bannockburn Memorial in Ceres was erected to mark the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.
The inscription reads:
TO COMMEMORATE
THE VINDICATION OF
SCOTLAND'S INDEPENDENCE
ON THE FIELD OF BANNOCKBURN
26TH JUNE 1314 - AND TO
PERPETUATE THE TRADITION
OF THE PART TAKEN THEREIN

Old Photograph Madras Road Auchtermuchty Fife Scotland
Old photograph of cottage, houses and people on Madras Road in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. In the past, the linen industry was a major source of work in the town, but in the early 18th century the firm of John White was established, bringing the town its first foundry. There was even a whisky distillery in operation from 1829 to 1929, when Prohibition in the U.S.A. led to its closure.

The surname Craigie is of Scottish origin, stemming from a habitational name from places named Craigie in various Scottish counties, or a topographic name from the Gaelic word creagach meaning " rocky place ". The name is also linked to the Scottish Gaelic word craeg, meaning " rock. "
