Tour Scotland Photographs Reflections Frozen Pond Perth Perthshire February 3rd

Tour Scotland photograph shot this morning of reflections in a frozen pond in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Kinnoull Parish Church reflected in a frozen pond at 11am this morning. The earliest recorded reference to Kinnoull Parish Church appears in Bagimond's Roll, a Papal taxation, of 1287. Although in the diocese of St Andrew's, it was not one of the churches mentioned as having been consecrated by Bishop David de Bainha in the middle of the 13th century. However, this is not to say that the parish did not exist or that there was not a church. The site of the original church building is uncertain. The "old church" at Wellbank, vacated on entry to the present building, was itself a renovation, carried out in 1779, of an earlier building on the same site. This building must have been in existence in 1635 since the statue of the first Earl of Kinnoull was erected in it in that year. The "old church" with its statue and graveyard now form an integral part of the Norie Miller Walk.

Tour Scotland Photograph Gyrocopter Scone Perthshire Scotland February 2nd

Tour Scotland photograph shot this morning of a Gyrocopter taking off from Scone Airport, by Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. A Gyrocopter looks like a small helicopter but the main difference is there is no engine turning the rotors. The rotors simply self-propel, which is called autorotating due to the way that the air flows through them.

Tour Scotland Video Kelty Clippie Folk Night Wheel Inn Scone Perthshire

. Tour Scotland travel video of Andrew Gordon singing the Kelty Clippie song on visit and trip to a pub inScone byPerth, Perthshire.
I have travelled o'er this country, from shore to shining shore
Frae the swamps o' Ochardarren tae the jungles o' Loch Ore
But in all these far flung places, there's nane that can compare
Wi' my lily o' Long Finnin, she's my bonny Maggie Blair

Chorus:
Oh she's just a Kelty Cilppie, she'll no take na advice
And it's ach! Drop died or we'll boil your heid and I'll punch your ticket twice
Her Father's just a waster, her Mother's on the gain
She's just a Kelty Cilppie and I love her just the same

Well I met her on the eight-fifteen that night o' romantic bliss
Says I, "Hey, Mag, put doon your fag and gi'e us a wee bit kiss."
Noo she didna tak' this kindly, she didna like my chaff
And being a contrary kind of lass, she said, "Come on, get off!"

Chorus

Frae the pyramids up at Kelty, tae the mansions of Glenn Craig
We've trod the banks together and many of life's travails
Seen the moonlight over Crosshill, trod Buckhiem's golden sands
And many a happy hoor we spent in Loch Gelly's happy land

Chorus

Now she has na got na culture, she drives me roond the bend
She sits at night in her old arm chair, reading the people's friend
Her lapel is full of badges, fray bodlens doon her ears
And she gangs tae the bingo every night with the curlers still in her hair

Chorus

Ah, but things are a wee bit better now, I've gone and I've got the ring
I won it frae Robin at the pitch and toss last night at the Lindsay Bing
Wi' her wee black bag and her ticket machine, she did my heart ensare
She's my lily o' Long Finnin, she's my bonny Maggie Blair

Chorus

Legend has it the village was founded in 203 A.D. by Asterius, a Pict. In 1303 Roslin was the site of a battle of the First War of Scottish Independence. In 1446, Rosslyn Chapel was constructed, under the guide of William Sinclair, 1st Earl of Caithness. Roslin became important as the seat of the St. Clair family. In 1456 King James II granted it the status of a burgh. Coal mining has been a major occupation from the twelfth to the late twentieth centuries.

Old Photograph Fishwives Leith Edinburgh Scotland

Old photograph of Fishwives in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. Fish always formed a large part of the food of the people of the area, and, down to the early days of the nineteenth century, was almost the only meat the poorer classes could afford. Newhaven was the chief source of this supply. For centuries, before the days of railways, the fishwives of Newhaven travelled to their Edinburgh customers by Whiting Loan, through Broughton village and up Leith Wynd, where, they entered the High Street by the Netherbow Port.
