Tour Scotland Video Fife Coastal Path St Andrews

Tour Scotland video of the coast at St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The Fife Coastal Walking Path goes past the harbour area of St Andrews, with fine views of St Andrews Castle which was the chief residence of the bishops, and later archbishops, of St Andrews. They were Scotland’s leading churchmen, and lived in a manner reflecting their exalted status. They also had to be prepared to defend themselves and the property of the Church, hence their strong castle. During its 450 year history, the castle served as episcopal palace, fortress and state prison.

There are stepping stones on the Fife Coastal Path which can be used to cross from West Anstruther to Anstruther, but are not available when the tide is in. The Fife Coastal Walking Path is a Scottish long distance footpath that runs from Kincardine to Newburgh. The path was created in 2002, originally running from North Queensferry to Tayport. It was extended in 2011 with a new section running from Kincardine to North Queensferry, then again in 2012 from Newburgh to Tayport. It runs for 117 miles along the coastline of Fife and passes through many seaside towns and villages. The path would take around one week to walk completely from end to end. Places of historic interest along the route include Aberdour Castle, Macduff's Castle near East Wemyss, Wemyss Castle, and Pitmilly, a former estate associated with the Moneypenny family. The focal point of the Fife Coastal Path is the Harbourmaster's House, in Dysart.

Tour Scotland Photographs Houses And Harbour Crail

Tour Scotland photograph of houses and and harbour at Crail, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. Crail, on the Fife Coastal Path, has many old houses and cottages and is best explored on foot to capture the quiet atmosphere of an old Scottish fishing village. Crail became a Royal Burgh in the 1178. Robert the Bruce granted permission to hold markets on a Sunday, in the Marketgait, where the Mercat Cross now stands in Crail. This practice was still continuing in the 16th century, causing concern in the freshly puritanical circles of Edinburgh such that John Knox was moved to deliver a sermon in Crail Parish Church, damning the fishermen of the East Neuk for working on a Sunday. Despite the protests, the markets continued and were amongst the largest in Europe for their time.

Tour Scotland Photographs Houses Cellardyke East Neuk Of Fife

Tour Scotland photograph of houses and and shoreline at Cellardyke, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. I was raised in this old fishing village in Scotland. Cellardyke is officially part of Kilrenny parish, and also part of the Anstruther fishing district, its fortunes fluctuating with the fishing trade. The population grew quickly in the 19th century and by the 1860s Cellardyke was a thriving town, with more than fifty boat owners and skippers year round, and one hundred other captains joining in for the annual herring fishing drive or Lammas drave which took place around the Lammas festival on August 1. There was also a February surge in fishing, when shoals of herring arrived in the Firth of Forth. The fish curers of Cellardyke salted and smoked cod and herring from Anstruther as well as their own fish, sending some to London, England, and some as far as the West Indies.
