Old photograph of High Street, Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland. Originally a centre for handloom weaving, Dalry prospered as the mining of coal and ironstone took off on a large scale and an ironworks was opened nearby. After the mines were worked out or ceased to be viable, textile mills formed the main source of employment until subsequently closed too. From the 1950s the Roche factory was the main local employer.
