Tour Scotland Photograph Clootie Dumpling Edinburgh

Tour Scotland photograph of Clootie Dumpling in a cafe in Edinburgh, Scotland. Clootie Dumpling with custard. A clootie dumpling is a rich dark fruitcake served as a dessert, like a Christmas pudding. It is boiled or steamed in a cloot, or cloth. In the old days, clootie dumplings were made as a birthday treat for children and, like Christmas Puddings, were often made containing sixpences. From Bawd Bree to Partan Bree, a distinctive culinary repertoire awaits the traveler to Scotland. Scottish Cooking.

Tour Scotland Photograph Breakfast Scones

Tour Scotland photograph of Breakfast Scones, which are especially popular in Scotland, England, Ireland and Canada, but are eaten in many other countries. They are usually made of wheat, barley or oatmeal, with baking powder as a leavening agent. The baking of scones at home is often closely tied to heritage baking. They tend to be made from family recipes rather than recipe books, since it is often a family member who holds the "best" and most treasured recipe in their files. Potato Scones are common for breakfast.
