Tour Scotland short 4K Summer travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking by a mansion house on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip near Musselburgh, Britain, United Kingdom. The estate, originally named Whitehill, was purchased in 1686 by the Scottish architect James Smith. Inspired by the classical designs of Andrea Palladio, Smith constructed a modest villa on the grounds. Faced with severe financial difficulties, Smith sold the property in 1702 to Lord Bellenden. In 1709, Sir David Dalrymple, 1st Baronet of Hailes, bought the mansion and officially renamed it Newhailes, drawing inspiration from Hailes Castle. The Dalrymples drastically expanded the property, establishing it as one of the finest Palladian villas in Britain. During the mid-to-late 18th century under Lord Hailes, David Dalrymple, 3rd Baronet, Newhailes became a focal point for Europe's greatest intellectual minds. Thinkers like David Hume and Adam Smith were regular visitors. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
