Tour Scotland short 4K Spring travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a Kilt and Sporran and walking by daffodils in a garden on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Tolquhon Castle, Aberdeenshire, Britain, United Kingdom. In 1420, the lands and the tower here passed to Sir John Forbes through his marriage to Marjorie Preston, the heiress of the estate. The castle seen today is the work of William Forbes, the 7th Laird of Tolquhon. Between April 15, 1584, and October 20, 1589, he completely transformed the site. He hired the renowned masonand architect Thomas Leiper who designed a highly decorative, three story residential complex centered around a main courtyard. The completed mansion was grand enough to host King James VI, who visited Tolquhon in 1589 during a military campaign. In 1651, the 10th Laird, Alexander Forbes, saved the life of King Charles II at the Battle of Worcester and was later knighted for his bravery. The family fortune collapsed when the 11th Laird invested heavily in the ill-fated Darien Scheme which was a disastrous attempt to establish a Scottish colony in Panama. Crushed by debt, the Forbeses were forced to sell the estate in 1716 to the Earl of Aberdeen. The 11th Laird refused to leave his home and had to be forcibly evicted by government troops on September 5, 1718. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome. The date for astronomical Spring is 20th March, ending on 21st June
