Dunadd situated on a rocky outcrop directly above the River Add. Its name, derived from the Scottish Gaelic Dùn Ad, which translates to " fort on the River Add". It was a major, easily defended stronghold for the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata, often overlooking the boggy Mòine Mhòr. The fort provides panoramic views of the Kilmartin Glen and the surrounding river landscape. he River Add was crucial for communication and defense during its time as a royal cente. It was the seat of power where early Scottish kings were crowned. The people of Dál Riata eventually united with the Picts to form the kingdom of Scotland.
