Tour Scotland 4K travel video of the Sir George Bruce and family Tomb in Abbey Church on ancestry, genealogy, family history to Culross, West Fife, Britain, United Kingdom. Sir George Bruce of Carnock, born 1550, died 1625, was a Scottish merchant and engineer. He was born in Carnock, near Dunfermline. King James VI, on a royal visit by to Culross, was invited by Sir George Bruce to visit one of his mines which tunnelled down beneath the sea bed. The King ventured into the tunnel which went far out into the Firth of Forth and found himself at a shaft point where the coal was loaded onto the ships. Alarmed to find himself surrounded by water at the top of the shaft, his Highness accused Sir George of an attempt on his life and declared that the whole affair was an act of treason! It was only when Sir George pointed out the rowing boat and explained that one could either use that or return by the tunnel from whence they came that the King relaxed again, and took the option of the boat journey. Video includes of the kneeling statues of seven of the the eight children of Sir George Bruce of Carnock and the Sir George Bruce of Carnock and Lady Bruce Effigies. George Bruce was knighted for his achievements in 1610. He married Margaret Primrose and, as the remarkable line of praying statues of their children in front of his tomb in Culross Abbey Church shows, they had three sons and five daughters.
