The great crested grebe is an elegant elegant waterbird with ornate head plumes which led to its being hunted for its feathers, almost leading to its extermination from the United Kingdom. They are diving waterbirds, feeding on small fish and aquatic invertebrates. The bird can be seen all year round and is fairly common on lochs, reservoirs, and along larger rivers.
