Winter Grey Squirrel Digging On Visit To My Cottage Garden Scone By Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Winter late afternoon travel video of a Grey squirrel digging for peanuts in the snow on a visit to my cottage garden in Scone by Perth, Perthshire. I had not expected to see this grey Squirrel after overnight snow, as the Squirrels tend to hibernate for a few days at this time of year. As its name suggests, this squirrel typically has a grey coat with white undersides, though the coat colour can also be quite brown at times. Grey squirrels are mainly herbivorous, eating acorns, hazel nuts, berries, fungi, buds and shoots, and even bark. During the Fall months squirrels are foraging for food. Squirrel movement decreases significantly in the winter months, with some squirrel species even hibernating during this time. Their Winter fur is dense and silvery grey with a brown tinge along the middle of the back. The grey squirrel was introduced to Great Britain in the middle of the 19th century. There is now an estimated population of 2 million making them much more common than the native red squirrel. They arrived in England from North America and are now one of Britain's most well known and frequently seen mammals, with an estimated population of 2 million. Fresh snow is expected to hit Scotland with the weather forecast anticipating as much as 15cm to fall over a 24 hour period. Stirling, the Highlands, Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire and Glasgow are among the place to potentially see the worst of the conditions.
