Tour Scotland travel video of a Winter afternoon road trip drive in some sleet and snow, with Scottish music, after visit to Bridge of Earn, over Friarton Bridge which spans the River Tay, then through Bridgend, to the village of Scone, where I live by Perth, Perthshire. Friarton Bridge is a high level cantilever four lane road bridge which crosses the River Tay 1½ miles South East of Perth, the Friarton Bridge represents the north eastern end of the M90 motorway. It allows traffic to bypass Perth to the east linking with the A90 which forges east across the Carse of Gowrie. The bridge was constructed in 1978 and represents the first road crossing upstream of the Tay Road Bridge. The medieval village of Scone, which grew up around the monastery and royal residence, was abandoned in the early 19th century when the residents were removed and a new palace was built on the site by the Earl of Mansfield. Hence the modern village of Scone, and the medieval village of Old Scone, can often be distinguished. During the coronavirus pandemic I have been a volunteer driver doing some shopping for elderly Scots. From Tuesday 5 January, mainland Scotland moved from Level 4 to a temporary Lockdown. Examples of reasonable excuses to go out include essential shopping, including essential shopping for a vulnerable person. After heavy snowfall for many, Scotland braces for at least another five days of cold easterly winds bringing snow and ice to most parts of the county, forecasters have said.
