Blackbird Feeding Young Cottage Garden Scone Perth Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland early Summer 4K travel video of a Blackbird feeding a young blackbird while paying a visit to my garden in Scone by Perth Perthshire. Young blackbirds, sometimes called juveniles, can be confused with thrushes or even robins, due to their speckly brown feathers. They're often a rich, reddish brown colour, especially on their breasts. You'll often see them following their parents around, pestering for food. Males Blackbirds live up to their name but, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts. Juveniles are also dark brown, but covered with gingery streaks. Blackbirds will quite often change their habits and distribution over the year. We often see them in gardens raising families and feeding during the spring and summer where they can raise up to three broods. The common Blackbird we know in the UK looks to have evolved from the Island Thrush in South East Asia. Most Blackbirds, even from an early age, seem to hop along the ground at a rapid scurry, foraging for food among leaves, soil and undergrowth. They are a gregarious bird and do not shy away easily around humans.
