Old Photograph East Cluden Mill Scotland

Old photograph of East Cluden Mill by the Cluden Water near Dumfries, Scotland. East Cluden Mills were built in the early 19th century. It was a two storey, attic and basement block, now converted to a house, with two 8 spoke, low breast paddle wheels with iron axles and rings, and wooden paddles and spokes; about 4 feet wide by 16 feet in diameter. The axles were originally wooden. The Cluden Water is formed by the meeting of the Cairn Water and the Old Water near Drumpark. It flows southeastwards for 6 miles to join the River Nith at Lincluden on the northern outskirts of Dumfries.
