Tour Scotland Travel Video Winter Morning Drive On A9 Road North To Dunkeld Perthshire

Tour Scotland travel video Blog of a Winter morning road trip drive North on the A9 road from Perth, through Birnam, on ancestry visit to the Square in Dunkeld, Highland Perthshire, Scotland. In the Square is Atholl Memorial Fountain at the Cross, the National Trust Ell Shop packed full of Scottish crafts and traditional sweets, and many of the 17th and 18th century houses. Dunkeld is located on the banks of the River Tay, which is spanned by a bridge built in 1809 by Thomas Telford. Dunkeld is located close to the Highland Boundary Fault, which marks the geological boundary between the Highlands and the Lowlands, and is frequently described as the Gateway to the Highlands. Shortly after the Battle of Killiecrankie, a fierce battle raged in the streets on 21 August 1689 between the Jacobites and government soldiers. Many of the buildings were burned or destroyed, and much of the Dunkeld we see today was rebuilt in the 18th century.
