The area is well known to climbers, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, and countless visitors from around the world, due having some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the whole of the British Isles. Loch Torridon is surrounded by numerous mountains to the north, including Liathach, Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe, all of which are over 3,000 feet in height. A single track road or one lane road is a road that permits two way travel but is not wide enough in most places to allow vehicles to pass one another, although sometimes two compact cars can pass. This kind of road is common in rural areas across the United Kingdom and elsewhere. The term is widely used in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands and Islands. This is Clan Mackenzie country. Clan Mackenzie, Scottish Gaelic: Clann Choinnich, is a Scottish clan, traditionally associated with Kintail and lands in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands. Traditional genealogies trace the ancestors of the Mackenzie chiefs to the 12th century.
