Old Travel Blog Photograph Bisset`s Hotel Gullane Scotland

Old travel Blog photograph of Bisset`s Hotel in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland. The Bissett surname is of Norman and Scottish origin, derived from a nickname meaning " dark " or " grayish brown " based on the Old French word biset. The name was brought to Scotland by Norman families who accompanied William the Lion and later established themselves in areas like Morayshire. The surname also has Irish and North American connections, with some Irish descendants settling in County Antrim and some North American Bissetts descending from the anglicized French surname Bessett. Gullane is part of the John Muir Way, a long distance walking footpath along the coast between Musselburgh and Dunglass. It was in 1892 that Mr. James Bisset, a butler at Archerfield House, built the hotel which was originally called The Royal Archers Hotel. However, the name was changed to The New Hotel, The Late New Hotel and finally Bisset’s Hotel. Gullane is the home of Muirfield Golf Course which has h osted The Open Championship on numerous occasions. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
