Old Travel Photograph Woodhead Toll House Tarbolton Scotlamd

Old travel photograph of Woodhead Toll house, a one storey, high thatched building near Tarbolton in South Ayrshire, Scotland. A Toll house on the trust road from Ayr to Mauchline, where full rates were payable. Property of the Road Trustees. Scottish Counties could apply for an Act of Parliament allowing them to raise funds to construct roads and recoup the money through the collection of tolls. The system proved very successful and resulted in the country having a good network of roads.
