Old Photograph Cottages And Children By Doune Burn Girvan Scotland

Old photograph of cottages and children by Doune Burn in Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Doune Burn is a spring of excellent water at the south end of the town, rising about 30 feet behind the wall through which it issues. In days when Girvan was not so well supplied with water as it is now, the Doune Burn was of prime importance, and was much frequented. Like all natural springs, the water was cooler and fresher than that brought in pipes, and was well used, especially in hot weather. The flow of water was a little over 9 gallons per minute, and never perceptibly diminished.
