Old photograph of Ceannabeinne Beach near Durness, Northern Sutherland, Scotland. Ceannabeinne had a former crofting township near Durness, is historically significant for its role in the Highland Clearances and the resulting Durness Riots. Once a thriving community of about 50 people living in 14 houses, it was forcibly cleared of its residents in 1842 to make way for sheep farming. The events surrounding the eviction, including the villagers' resistance and the intervention of the army, became known as the Durness Riots.
