Old photograph of a horse and carriage, people and buildings on Sunnyside road in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Coatbridge is situated about 10 miles east of Glasgow city centre, set in the central Lowlands. The town, with neighbouring Airdrie, is part of the Greater Glasgow urban area.

Robert Lees, born on July 3, 1842 in Coatbridge, was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate and the Wisconsin State Assembly. He emigrated from Coatbridge to Cross, Wisconsin. America. Edward Lees, his father, was a member of the Assembly. During the American Civil War, Lees was a member of the 6th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment of the Union Army and served with the Iron Brigade. He was wounded during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was a member of the Assembly in 1873 before representing the 29th District of the Senate. He was elected Buffalo County, Wisconsin judge in 1881 and held the position until his death. In addition, he was a member of the Alma, Wisconsin School Board. Lees was a Democrat. On March 4, 1865, Lees married Mary Baertsch. They had six children.
