Old photograph of Auchinleck House by Auchinleck near Cumnock in East Ayrshire, Scotland. This Scottish mansion house was built between 1755 and 1760 by Alexander Boswell, 8th Laird of Auchinleck and the father of James Boswell, the celebrated diarist and biographer of Samuel Johnson. Boswell and Johnson visited the house in 1773 on their way back from their journey to the Hebrides. In 1782, James Boswell became the 9th Laird of Auchinleck. Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
