Old photograph of the railway station in Alness near the Cromarty Firth, Scotland. The station was first opened on March 23, 1863, by the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway as part of the expansion between Dingwall and Invergordon. In September 1715 the Skirmish of Alness took place between Jacobite clans such as the MacKenzies, MacDonalds under the Earl of Seaforth, and pro-government Munros, Rosses, MacKays under the Earl of Sutherland. The Jacobites drove their opponents over Struie to Bonar.
