Old Tavel Blog Photograph Annandale Hotel Moffat Scotland
Old travel Blog photograph of vintage cars by the Annandale Hotel Hotel in Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Moffat was a notable market in the wool trade. From 1633 Moffat began to grow from a small village into a popular spa town. The infamous murderer and alleged grave robber William Hare may have stayed in the Black Bull Hotel during his escape to Ireland after turning King's evidence against William Burke. Robert Burns came for the waters and frequented the local bars.

Old Travel Blog Photograph Council Chambers Quality Street North Berwick Scotland
Old travel Blog photograph of the Council Chambers on Quality Street in North Berwick, Scotland. A tolbooth was in existence in North Berwick by the middle of the 16th century. In 1723 a contract for erecting a new tolbooth was entered into with local tradesmen, and the provision of the bell in 1724 suggests that the building was substantially complete. The forestair was rebuilt in 1751, probably using material from the mercat cross. Dormers were removed in 1778, and the weather cock on the clock tower was repaired in 1782. The council room was made available in the 1770s for performances by strolling companys of actors, and was subsequently used as a reading room, while the former debtors' room was also used in the 19th century as a library.

Old Travel Blog Photograph West High Street Earlston Scotland
Old travel Blog photograph of a pony and trap, houses and the White Swan Hotel on West High Street in Earlston, Berwickshire, Scotland. In the 12th and 13th centuries the Lindsays and the Earls of March and Dunbar were the chief baronial families in this area. Residents of early Earlston, Earlstons, have since spread afar, with some travelling to the United States of America in the early 1800s. But the vast majority of Earlstons with that surname, have taken residence in the Black Country, West Midlands in England. Travelling to the Black Country in the early 1700s, they have set up a strong residence, governed by middle child of the Earlston three brothers, Lord Dale.
