Tour Scotland Travel Video Loading Baryte EEMS Coast Cargo Ship Harbour Perth Perthshire
Tour Scotland travel video of loading Baryte onto the EEMS Coast general cargo ship at the harbour on visit to the Fair City of Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Barite or barytes, barium sulphate, is a mineral largely used, 77% of it, as a weighting agent for drilling fluids in oil and gas exploration. It is an essential component and there is no substitute that has all of its properties. The Baryte shown here was mined at Foss near Abefeldy, Highland Perthshire. The Foss barite belongs to the Argyll Group of the Precambrian Dalradian Supergroup. In other words, it was deposited over 600 million years ago. In the intervening period these rocks have been deformed and metamorphosed many times, and the Foss barite vein shows evidence of at least five episodes of folding, so that following its twists and turns underground is far from easy. The barite was discovered in 1975, and supplies about a quarter of the UK North Sea requirement. It is also the largest accumulation of the metal barium in the world. Open to shipping round the clock, Perth Harbour accepts coastal and dry bulk ships up to 90 metres in length, carrying up to 2,500 tonnes from Europe, the Baltic or Scandinavia. Because of its scale, vessels can be received on one high tide and depart on the next, ensuring maximum efficiency. Cargoes passing through Perth Harbour range from traditional agricultural related cargoes such as animal feedstuffs and fertilisers to timber, chemicals and baryte ore.

Tour Scotland Travel Video Drive Safely Scottish Country Road Driving
Tour Scotland travel video of country road driving, Scottish Country roads are narrow and unpredictable in Scotland. Drive with care when you overtake, just in case a vehicle is coming in the opposite direction. Drive too fast on country roads, and you may not have time to react to the unexpected. Narrow Scottish roads can have many hazards. Driving too fast for the conditions is the most common cause of fatal accidents on country roads. Country roads can be deceptively dangerous.

Tour Scotland Travel Video March Road Trip Driveway To Glamis Castle
Tour Scotland March travel video of a wee road trip drive up the tree lined driveway on ancestry visit to Glamis Castle, Angus, Scotland. This Scottish castle has been the Royal residence of the Lyon family since 1372 and is the legendary setting of Macbeth by William Shakespeare. It was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. The Castle is situated 12 miles North of Dundee, 81 miles North of Edinburgh, 6 miles from Forfar and 93 miles from Glasgow. In 1532 Lady Janet Douglas Lady was accused of witchcraft by friends of King James V and imprisoned. After several months in a dark dungeon, she was burned alive at the stake outside Edinburgh Castle. Even her young son was condemned to death and imprisoned only to be released after the king had died. Lady Janet Douglas's ghost is known as The White Lady she has haunted Glamis Castle for hundreds of years. The apparition has been seen relatively recently in the chapel by a number of witnesses. She is also said to appear above the Clock Tower.

Old Travel Blog Photograph Wallace Terrace Barrhill Scotland
Old travel Blog photograph of houses on Wallace Terrace in Barrhill in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The village lies on the A714 road between Girvan and Newton Stewart. Barrhill railway station, on the Glasgow South Western Line is approximately ½ mile South West of the Village centre. This station featured in The Five Red Herrings, a 1931 Lord Peter Wimsey detective novel by Dorothy L Sayers. In 1665, by the side of Cross Water in Barrhill, John Murchie and Daniel Mieklewrick were found by soldiers to be in possession of Bibles and assumed to be Covenanters and shot to death. They were buried on the spot, and a memorial was built, known as The Martyrs' Tom. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
