Old photograph of the Braeriach Hotel and houses and cottages on the High Street in Newtonmore, Scotland. The village is only a few miles from a location that is claimed to be the exact geographical centre of Scotland. Newtonmore railway station is managed by Abellio ScotRail and is on the Highland Main Line. Newtonmore has been bypassed by the A9 since 1979. Newtonmore calls itself the Walking Centre of Scotland, referring both to its geographical location and to the great walking opportunities locally, like the Wildcat Trail. An extension to the Speyside Way could soon add Newtonmore to a Long Distance Route and it will become the new end to this trail.

Old photograph of vintage cars, shops, and the Waverly Hotel on the High Street in Nairn, Moray, Scotland. Nairn is an ancient fishing port and market town around 16 miles of Inverness. It was the county town of the wider county of Nairn also known as Nairnshire. The town is now best known as a seaside resort, with two golf courses, and award winning beaches. Charlie Chaplin, used to holiday every year in Nairn and stayed at the Newton Hotel.

Old Photograph Clachan Hotel Aberfoyle Scotland

Old photograph of shops and the Clachan Hotel in Aberfoyle, Trossachs, Scotland. Aberfoyle has connections to many historical figures such as Rob Roy and Mary, Queen of Scots. Robert Roy MacGregor was born at the head of nearby Loch Katrine, and his well known cattle stealing exploits took him all around the area surrounding Aberfoyle. It is recorded, for example, that in 1691, the MacGregors raided every barn in the village of Kippen and stole all the villagers livestock.

Old Photograph Pass Of Brander Scotland

Old photograph of a cottage by the road in the Pass Of Brander by Loch Awe, Argyll, Scotland. The Battle of the Pass of Brander in Scotland forms a small part of the wider struggle known as the Wars of Scottish Independence, and a large part of the civil war between the Bruce and Balliol factions, a parallel and overlapping conflict. It was a victory for King Robert the Bruce over the MacDougalls of Argyll, kinsmen of John Comyn, also known as the Red Comyn, who had been murdered by Bruce and his adherents at Dumfries in 1306.

Tour Scotland Video Autumn Drive To Village Church Dull Highland Perthshire

Tour Scotland Autumn video of a drive to the village church in Dull on ancestry visit to Highland Perthshire, Scotland. This Scottish village consists of a single street of houses on the north side of the valley of the River Tay. .In June 2012, the town of Boring in Oregon, USA, accepted the proposal of Dull to pair their municipalities, in an effort to promote tourism in both places as a play on their names. They became sister cities. The parish church, unused since the 1970s is on the site of an early Christian monastery founded by St Adomnán who was, Abbot of Iona. Bland Shire, West Wyalong, farm community and former gold prospecting site in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, has created not a twinned town relationship but a League of Extraordinary Communities to group Dull, Boring, and Bland as a means of encouraging travel,promoting all three communities.
