Old photograph of a shop, buildings and people in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. Ballantrae is a village in Carrick, South Ayrshire. In June 1673, while holding a conventicle at Knockdow near Ballantrae, Alexander Peden, was captured by Major William Cockburn, and condemned by the Privy Council to four years and three months imprisonment on the Bass Rock and a further fifteen months in the Edinburgh Tolbooth. The town is the fictional setting of the novel The Master of Ballantrae by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Old Photograph Municipal Buildings Carnoustie Scotland
Old photograph of a shop and the Municipal Buildings in Carnoustie, Scotland. The town is at the mouth of the Barry Burn on the North Sea coast in Angus. It was founded in the late 18th century, and grew rapidly throughout the 19th century due to the growth of the local textile industry. It was popular as a tourist resort from the early Victorian era up to the latter half of the 20th century, due to its seaside location, and is best known for its associations with golf.

Old Photograph Dumbarton Road Scotstoun Glasgow Scotland
Old photograph of shops and buildings on Dumbarton Road in Scotstoun, Glasgow, Scotland. During the medieval period Scotstoun Estate belonged to the Montgomerie family who, having owned the estate for 200 years, sold it in 1634 to John Hutchison, Notary and Town Clerk of Glasgow. John Hutchison’s daughter married Archibald Stewart and their son sold it in 1691 to William Walkinshaw. The estate changed hands on a number of occasions before it was finally bought by the Oswald family in 1751.

Old Photograph BBC Scottish Regional Transmitter Station Falkirk Scotland
Old photograph of the BBC Scottish Regional Transmitter Station in Falkirk, Scotland. At a strength of 50 kilowatts, the Scottish Regional Programme transmitter, broadcasting on a wavelength of 376.4m was designed to radiate a signal approximately 70 to 80 miles in all directions from Falkirk, the maximum range in which a consistently reliable service could be given. The National Programme transmitter, broadcasting on a shorter wavelength of 288.5m, was expected to radiate a reliable signal at a distance of 50 to 60 miles. The latter also shared its wavelength with other National Programme transmitters across the country. Falkirk is situated in the Forth Valley, almost midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Tour Scotland Photograph St Oran's Chapel Island Of Iona
Tour Scotland photograph of St Oran's Chapel on the Island of Iona in the Inner Hebrides of the West coast of Scotland. Built in the 12th century, the chapel was dedicated to St Oran. St Oran's Chapel was a ruin until the chapel was restored during the same time as Iona Abbey. The burial ground surrounding the chapel is known as Reilig Òdhrain.
