Tour Scotland Video Story Of The Battle of Tippermuir Near Perth Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of the story of the Battle of Tippermuir near Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The Battle of Tippermuir on 1 September 1644 was the first battle James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose fought for the king during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The main objective of the battle was the reclamation of Perth. Montrose had joined forces with Alaster M'Coll Keitach, known as Alasdair MacColla McDonald, and his Irish soldiers. Nevertheless, he was greatly outnumbered by the Covenanters: Montrose's Highlanders and the Irish together made up no more than 2000 men, Lord Elcho on the other side had 7,000 infantry and 700 horse. Yet Montrose's men were more experienced and better motivated, a fact that would count to their advantage during the battle. The two armies met at Tippermuir, three miles outside of Perth. On the Covenanters' side, Lord Elcho commanded the right wing, James Murray of Gask the centre, and the left flank was given over to Sir James Scott of Rossie, the only veteran soldier present in the Covenant army that day.

Tour Scotland video of salmon leaping up rivers in Highland, Perthshire, Scotland. Every year Atlantic salmon make their way from the sea to their spawning grounds up river and you can watch them leap out of the water as they leap up waterfalls and the difficult part of rushing rivers to their breeding grounds. Fish tend to be more active in the early morning and evening so time your visit to make the most of your salmon spotting. The best sightings tend to be in the Autumn in October and early November.

Old Photograph Cub Scouts Newton Stewart Scotland
Old photograph of Cub Scouts in Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Cub Scouts or Cubs are an age based section of The Scout Association for young boys and girls ages 8 to 10. The town on Newton Stewart on the River Cree was founded in the mid 17th century by William Stewart, fourth and youngest son of the 2nd Earl of Galloway. The New Town of Stewart was granted burgh status by charter from King Charles II, allowing a weekly market and two annual fairs to be held. It was on a pilgrimage to the shrine of St Ninian at Whithorn in 1329 that Robert the Bruce forded the river where the present bridge stands. Designed by John Rennie the Elder and built in 1813 the present bridge replaced the old bridge of 1745 which was destroyed by floods in 1806. film The Wicker Man was filmed almost entirely on location around Newton Stewart.
