Tour Scotland Video Coast And Sea Tantallon Castle Firth of Forth
Tour Scotland video of of the coast and sea at Tantallon Castle near North Berwick, Scotland. The cliff top castle, was the stronghold of the powerful Douglas family, Earls of Angus. The first fortress at Tantallon dates to about 1350. For the subsequent 3 centuries the castle served as one of the major strongholds of the powerful Red Douglas family, the junior branch of the Douglasses. The Douglas family rose to power as allies of Robert the Bruce during the Scottish Wars of Independence.

Tour Scotland Video Driving To Tantallon Castle East Lothian
Tour Scotland travel video of a road trip drive on the A918 route on ancestry, history visit to Tantallon Castle near North Berwick on the Firth of Forth East Lothian. This is is a mid 14th century fortress, located three miles east of North Berwick. It was built by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas. It was passed to his illegitimate son, later created Earl of Angus, and despite several sieges, it remained the property of his descendants for much of its history. It was besieged by King James IV in 1491, and again by his successor James V in 1528, when extensive damage was done. Tantallon saw action in the First Bishops' War in 1639, and again during Oliver Cromwell's invasion of Scotland in 1651.

Old Photograph Ministers' Daughters' College Edinburgh Scotland
Old photograph of the Ministers' Daughters' College in Edinburgh, Scotland. James Esdaile, born 1775, died 1854, was a Scottish minister and writer who spent his working life mainly at the East Church, Perth, Perthshire. He began as a tutor in the family of James Christie of Durie. He then studied at the University of St Andrews, Fife. He was licensed by the presbytery of Kirkcaldy on 15 June 1803; and was ordained to Montrose, on 14 August 1805. He was admitted as minister in Perth in November 1810. Along with his brother David, he founded the Ministers' Daughters' College, in Edinburgh, which closed in 1972.
